Hello and welcome to the West of England School and College website!

We’ve been providing education and care for young people with visual impairment since 1838. We are a designated High Performing Specialist School and we also hold the International award.

The latest school inspection report states: As a specialist special school it is meeting the needs of the pupils well due to good teaching, which is based on personalised learning as well as challenging target setting. In this forward-thinking and inclusive school, pupils are happy and feel safe. Outstanding use is made of an exceptionally wide range of information and communication technology (ICT) to support teaching and learning.

The report also quotes one pupil as saying: “The school has done so much for me. Now I have nine GCSE's and I know what I want to do with my life”.

But don’t just take our word for it. Click on the videos and hear what the learners think.

Science is great...

I love science, we do loads of practical experiments, last week we were testing food with a blue dye to see which one had the most vitamin C in it. I need a bit of help as I am visually impaired but I get to do most of it myself - Orange Juice won, I like orange juice.

A residents view...

I'm new to the West of England school and everyone is so very friendly they've really made me feel welcome. The lessons are much better as the teachers and support staff make sure I have what I need for each lesson so I am able to keep up.
